You may be more familiar with home set cars like Scalextric. Well the great news is that our club arranges racing for Scalextric cars on our large wooden construction track. We also have much faster club cars that you are welcome to use and race initially. Most of our club racing is for these fast production cars in both 1/32nd & 1/24th scale. Even though they are much faster than Scalextric they are designed to handle well and built with materials that take crashes so you can get into the fun of high speed racing. If you decide after a few visits that you want to get more involved. we run a club shop where you can purchase your own car. At present a ready-to-run complete production car can be purchased for around £60. We also like you to buy your own controller after a while. A standard controller can be purchased for under £25. Also there are often excellent 2nd hand bargains to get you started.
As well as the excellent fun of racing, the sport also offers the chance to learn useful constructional and modelling skills. The club experts are always happy to provide some tuition. For those that want to progress even further the club is involved in inter-club, national & even international racing with 2 of our members having competed in the Final of a World Championship. Club Secretary Steve Sargent organises the British Slot Racing League which visits other clubs throughout the north using our club formula cars.More details of this series are given in the separate 'BSL' part of the website. The club is also affiliated to the national governing body, The British Slot Car Racing Association for which Steve Sargent is Development Officer. Becoming a club affiliated member of 'BSCRA' offers many benefits including magazines & a driver permit to compete in inter-club racing. |
